September 18, 2006

Dear Support Group Leaders,

Welcome new Leader Letter readers! An additional 80 homeschoolers in leadership positions have enrolled to receive for our monthly Leader Letter! We will continue to keep you informed by sending encouraging items, cutting-edge information, and articles you can reproduce in your newsletters or e-letters.

Special Sneak Preview Announcement!
Jeff Myers Please join us Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28, at the Woodlands Hotel and Suites Conference Center in Colonial Williamsburg for a seminar for leaders and potential leaders! Colonial Williamsburg serves as the colorful fall setting for HEAV's Virginia Homeschool Leadership Conference.

Dr. Jeff Myers will share how to effectively "pass the baton" to the next generation of homeschoolers–our children. Jeff's special presentation, "Passing the Baton," will be a life-changing event for homeschool leaders who teach their own children and who work with and encourage other homeschooling families!

Leaders have first registration priority!
With limited conference seating (only 180 attendees), leaders will have until Friday, September 22, to register, then seminar registration will open to all homeschoolers. Conference and registration details can be found here.

"The baton has been passed to us; now it's our turn to pass it to our children," Jeff states, "Life is a relay race, and we're running our lap right now. Our children are warming up for theirs. The next generation is poised, eyes down the track. Will we make the pass?"

Our generation must prepare the next generation to lead. Everything for which we've worked is at risk. It's time to rethink how we raise our own children and how we disciple others in our support groups, our neighborhoods, and our churches.

"Passing the Baton" will address the following topics:
  • In the relay race of life, what do we want to pass on to our children?
  • Why is homeschooling good for both children and parents?
  • Do we want our children to succeed for their own sakes, or is there something more on which we should focus?
  • What will prepare our children to stand alone?
  • Although we teach what we know, what will we reproduce?
  • Why do we need to be flexible–sometimes leading, sometimes following?
  • How can we give our children the opportunity to assume responsibility, exert influence, and make a difference?
  • Did God save us to protect us from the world, or does He have another purpose?
  • What is the best way to respond to our failures?
  • And many more topics!

Jeff Myers believes this is a "critical mission" for leaders. The "Passing the Baton" conference will guide leaders through a fast-paced six-hour strategic planning process. Each leader will depart with a set of clearly stated goals, strategies, and action steps. The conference will present you with numerous opportunities to share ideas with one another and develop a strong sense of purpose and renewed hope and vision for the future.

Look for more details later this week!
