TAKE TIME TO EATTAKE TIME TO EAT
Have you ever gotten so busy you've forgotten to eat until you are feeling faint and sick from hunger? Though we might forget to eat at times, we all need "refueling."

As homeschool parents we need "refueling," too. We need time to take a step back and reflect on what we're doing and why we're doing it, and then, with the Lord's help, time to plan a "tasty menu" for the upcoming year.

The convention offers the perfect opportunity to refuel, recharge, and do some creative "menu" planning! There's vision, encouragement, instruction, and resources --food for your heart as well as your mind.

Life is busy, and there are many circumstances and needs that claim our time. I hope you'll take time to come to the convention and be renewed and refreshed. You and your family will be glad that you did!

Also, consider helping to "refuel" others by volunteering a few hours while you're at the convention. There's nothing like blessing others to encourage our own hearts.

Find more details about the convention at www.heav.org/convention.

With warm regards,

Anne Miller
HEAV President

BEWARE OF VIRTUAL SCHOOL RECRUITING
"The governor's recent signature on SB 738, giving state approval for 'virtual school programs,' guarantees that public-school-at-home programs, under various names in different places, will soon ramp up their efforts to recruit homeschoolers. Participation in these programs--full time or part time--will immediately turn your child into a public school student." - Read more on HSLDA's website. For more cautions regarding virtual schooling, please see page 7 and 9 of the fall 2009 Virginia Home Educator.

Help Wanted! It's Not Too Late to Volunteer!
To those of you who have volunteered, thank you! We appreciate your help very much. If you haven't volunteered yet, it's not too late! We could still use volunteers for the convention in many different areas. Simply contact our volunteer coordinator via our Volunteer Checklist. Below are some specific needs we still have--please click to learn more.
  • Children's Program - Have lots of fun working with children under the direction of Buddy Davis from Answers in Genesis while allowing parents to receive the support and information they need in their homeschool journey. Adults and mature teens are needed.
  • HEAV Tables - HEAV needs experienced moms and dads to help man the HEAV tables at the convention.
  • Registration - Take a two-hour shift to welcome those attending convention, help them get their name tags, and direct them to their first activity.
  • Taping Tables - This is a great opportunity for responsible teens and young adults to help out and gain a little experience.

More Feedback from Attendees
We have been homeschooling for 11 years and this is the first time we have attended the convention!...We loved everything about the convention!!!...We drove 176.59 miles just to attend the convention, and it was worth every minute of the drive!!
- Shenan Ott

As a former classroom teacher, I've been to a lot of education conferences, so it was a breath of fresh air to attend a convention where the speakers opened each seminar in prayer...Attending the HEAV State Convention confirmed my choice to homeschool. Seeing all the resources was encouraging!

4) Parting Thought - Clunkers
The owner of an old clunker was used to dealing with a variety of car breakdowns. One day at the supermarket, just after filling the trunk with groceries, she noticed a stream of fluid pouring out of the bottom of the car. She knew she had to get home before the car was once again out of action.

When she arrived, she asked her husband to take a look at the problem. Expecting the worst, she braced herself for his diagnosis. When he came back in, he was smiling. "It's apple juice."
