~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Taking Time Martin Luther once
said, "Tomorrow I plan to work, work,
from early until late. In fact I have so much to do that I shall spend
the
first three hours in prayer." During the busy spring season,
let's not neglect
to take time in prayer and God's Word. We need His inspiration and
refreshment
to reflect His love and truth to our little ones and to know how to
handle life's
decisions and challenges.

ARTICLE God...in Math? Have
you ever stopped to consider where math
came from or why it works? Although most textbooks don't ever really
explain
math's origin or purpose, the Bible gives us the answers! In this short
article, Katherine Loop explores math's oft-overlooked
testimony to God's faithfulness. Read the article. Want to
learn more about how you can teach your child math
concepts from a biblical perspective? Come hear Katherine at the 2010
HEAV convention! She will be speaking on "Math from a Biblical
Worldview?"

HOMESCHOOLING NEWS AND REMINDERS Parental Rights Amendment The
proposed Parental Rights Amendment will preserve the time-honored
principles of parental rights in the actual text of the Constitution,
just as
the Bill of Rights preserves other fundamental rights. Take a look at
the PRA site
to learn more, and to find out how our parental rights run the risk of
being
eroded in the near future. Be sure to attend the Friday morning convention
keynote with Mike Farris to learn more about the threats
to parental rights--and what you can do about them! U.S. Immigration Opposes Asylum
Decision The
United States Government Agency for Immigration and Customs Enforcement
(ICE) is opposing the asylum granted in January to the Romeike family, a
persecuted German homeschool family. Read all about it and keep the
family and our
nation in your prayers.
Homeschooling Numbers on the Rise in
Fairfax County This article, recently published in the Fairfax
County Times, reminds us homeschooling continues to grow...and
grow...and grow!

INFORMATION--AND AN OPPORTUNITY TO GIVE Founded by Dr. Brian D. Ray back when
homeschooling
was not legal in most states, the National
Home
Education Research Institute has faithfully worked to compile
homeschool
statistics that have then been used in court cases and legislatures
around the country to help
promote and defend homeschooling. Every
homeschool family in America, in
one way or another, has been blessed by Dr. Ray's labor of love.
Today,
NHERI
helps homeschoolers in America--and around the world--by providing
statistical
data and research to show homeschooling works. Check out the NHERI website for helpful statistical information,
to sign up for their mailing list, and to make a donation! (You can donate online or by filling out this form.)
NHERI is a non-profit organization, and donations are tax-deductible.

The Convention Approaches! The
convention is just a little more than six weeks away! Are you ready?
Here
are a few ideas to help you prepare:
- Pray. Pray for us
as we finish
preparations. Pray for all those attending. And pray especially for
the hundreds of
parents of preschoolers who will be coming for the first time this
year.
- Get Ready. Here
are quick links
to information that will help you as you prepare.

HELP WANTED!
Convention Volunteers - We need
experienced
parents to take two-hour shifts at the HEAV tables, strong young men to
help
lift books and set up tables in the UCS on Thursday afternoon, speaker
hosts
and hostesses, volunteers in the Children's Program, and more. Would you
please
ask the Lord if He would have you minister to other homeschoolers by
volunteering? We still have a lot of volunteer slots to fill! To
volunteer or to find out more, visit our volunteer page today.
Speaker Hosts & Hostesses -
Every
speaker needs a good host or hostess. Help your favorite speaker feel at
home
by assisting them before, during, and after their workshop. All you need
is the
ability to make sure the speakers have what they need (you tell us if
they
don't), hand out evaluation forms, read a brief introduction, and count
the
number of people in your room. It's that simple. Please e-mail speakerhost@heav.org
if you'd like to
volunteer, and we'll send you a list of available workshops!
Children's Program - Do you love
children and
have a heart to serve? Can you help provide a welcoming and exciting
environment for little ones? If so, please consider volunteering at the Children's Program!
The program, run by Answers in Genesis
and
featuring Buddy Davis, promises to be an amazing two days. We
need full-time adult and teen leaders to help all day on
Friday and Saturday, as well as some one-day assistants. Unlike other
convention volunteers, those helping in the Children's Program do NOT need to be registered for convention
(although if they are not registered, they will not have convention
privileges).

Parting Thought - Laws of Computing 1. When computing,
whatever happens, behave as
though you meant it to happen. 2. When you get to the point
where you really
understand your computer, it's definitely obsolete. 3. The first
place to look for information is in the
section of the manual where you'd least expect to find it. 4.
When the going gets tough, upgrade. 5. For every action, there
is an equal and opposite
malfunction. 6. To err is human; to blame your computer for your
mistakes is even more human. 7. He who laughs last probably has a
back-up. 8. The number one cause of computer problems is
computer solutions. 9. A complex system that doesn't work is
invariably
found to have evolved from a simpler system that worked just fine. 10.
A computer program will always do what you tell
it to do, but rarely what you want it to do. - From Dr. Bob
Griffin, www.grif.net

Worth Repeating "The
greatest
part of a writer's time is spent in reading, in order to write; a man
will turn
over a half a library to make one book." - Samuel Johnson
(1709-1784), eighteenth-century English writer and critic.
Until the publication of the Oxford English Dictionary 150 years
later, Johnson's Dictionary
of the English Language was viewed as the preeminent British dictionary.

the Week Thine, O LORD, [is] the greatness, and the power, and
the glory, and the
victory, and the majesty: for all [that is] in the heaven and in the
earth [is
thine]; thine [is] the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head
above all. - 1
