Ultimate Book of Homeschooling Ideas
By Linda Dobson Reviewed by Jan Surface, a veteran homeschool mom of two graduates, who is now teaching her two primary-age children. "Are
your children excited about the start of school or are they hoping to put it
off another month? Or maybe forget about it altogether? Linda Dobson's book The
Ultimate Book of Homeschooling Ideas can
help. This book has more than 500 fun and creative learning activities that can
stand alone or be easily dovetailed into your curriculum to bring a breath of
fresh air to your homeschool...
"...With
more than 16 years of homeschooling behind me, I've done a lot, but as I read
this book, I was continually amazed as each page presented an idea or activity
that made me think, "Wow, what a fun idea" or "I need to mark this one and be
sure to incorporate it into my lesson plans" or "I'm marking this one for
family night." If you are new to homeschooling or, like me, you have been
around the block a few times, this book is a must have!"

4) Parting Thought -
Scrabble
Trivia, Part 2
The highest score obtainable by playing a seven-letter word is QUARTZY across a
triple-word-score square with the Z on a double-letter-score square.
The highest-known score for a single word in competition Scrabble is 392. In
1982, Dr. Saladin Khoshnaw achieved this score for the word CAZIQUES, which
means Indian chief.
The highest possible score, theoretically, for a single play under American
tournament Scrabble rules is 1,778 points for joining eight already-played
tiles to form the word OXYPHENBUTAZONE across three triple-word-score squares,
while simultaneously extending seven specific already-played words to form new
words.
ETAERIO is the seven-letter word most likely to appear on a Scrabble rack.
There are 10 two-letter words spelled with vowels only: AA, AE, AI, AY, OE, OI,
OY, YA, YE, YO.

5)
Worth Repeating
"Still, if you will not fight
for the right when you can easily win without bloodshed; if you will not fight
when your victory will be sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment
when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious
chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when
there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than live as
slaves."
- Sir Winston Churchill (1874-1965), English statesman, orator, soldier,
historian, author, and prime minister. Read more about him here.

6) Verse of the Week
And he
said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect
in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that
the power of Christ may rest upon me.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)
