How the Church Can Strengthen Families for
the 21st Century
A Conference
December 5-6. Many say the Christian faith is
dying in
America. How will churches respond? What will
churches do to strengthen the family? How do
we connect church and family? This conference
answers these questions.

FUNDRAISER OPPORTUNITY
Earn Extra Money for Christmas,
Extracurriculars, or Your Support Group or
Team--and Support HEAV at the Same Time!
Needing extra cash for the Christmas season...or maybe for extracurricular activities, a sports program, mission trip, band, or curriculum? Could your support group use a financial boost? Have an entrepreneurial child?
Selling Peel-A-Way cards is a simple and do-able way to raise funds either as an individual or as a group. People love the cards AND you'll be supporting HEAV at the same time!
How Does It Work?
There are NO up-front costs, risks, storage,
or spoilage. You or your group sell
Peel-A-Way cards--a credit-card size coupon
card with 32 mini peel-off "Buy-One-Get-One
FREE" offers from
local merchants. Each card sells for only
$12, has a value of over $150, and is good
for 12 months or longer. The purchaser
saves the cost of the card on the first or
second use!
For every Peel-A-Way card you sell, you or your group makes $4, and HEAV makes $2.
Everyone Wins!
Ready to Get Started?
Just give Joel Upole at Peel-A-Way a
call at 800-519-7335
and mention you are with HEAV. The sooner you
call, the sooner you can get started raising
money!

"...even a robot can 'bark out'
assignments...teaching, however, is in stark
contrast to
that kind of
arrangement. As one homeschool mom
quipped, 'Teaching is not just checking off
pages and
clocking in time.'"
This short article offers valuable pointers on how to let learning be a fun exploration rather than merely pages in a textbook you assign. Offered here are helpful tidbits and encouragement to put a spark in your homeschool!
Read "Teaching vs. Assigning."
Register your MVP card online, and every time
you use your MVP card at checkout, Food Lion
will donate to HEAV--all while your prices
remain the same!
Register your card here. After clicking the "Select Your Organization" button, choose "VA" as the state and "Richmond" as the city. You should then see "Home Educators Association of VA" as one of the choices in the "Select Organization" drop-down menu.

Are you a leader, a self-starter, and
well-organized? Do you have lots of energy,
good computing skills, excellent
administrative skills, and time for a worthy
endeavor?. Would you like a key position on
our convention team? Lots of hard work, very
little money; a great opportunity to serve
others. If you are interested, let's talk.

Cleaning and scrubbing can wait till

For babies grow up, as we've learned to our
sorrow,
So quiet down cobwebs and dust go to sleep,
For I'm rocking my baby and babies don't
keep.
So says the sign in the home of pioneering homeschoolers, Rick and Marilyn Boyer, and likely in some of yours too. Marilyn's blog entry reminds all of us extra-busy homeschool moms to make time for the truly important things in life--our children. Ask the Lord for wisdom to help you discern when to "Dare to Say No." Read the entire item here.
"You can't make Socialists out of
individualists--children who know how to
think for themselves
spoil
the harmony of the collective society which
is coming,
where everyone is interdependent."
- John Dewey (1859-1952), American psychologist,
humanist, philosopher, and educational
reformer. He
also said, "I believe that in this way the
teacher always
is the prophet of the true God and the
usherer in of the
true kingdom of God." In contrast, the Bible
urges
parents to teach their children to think
based upon the
Word of God--and to, like the Bereans, examine
teachings against its standard (Acts 17:11).
Otherwise
they'll end up following who knows what.
With him [is] wisdom and strength, he hath
counsel
and understanding.
