Congratulations to Our Convention Drawing Winners!
Every year at the convention, HEAV hands out both speaker and general convention evaluation forms. These forms help us plan for the next year, giving us valuable feedback about speakers, facilities, and more.

After the convention, we randomly select a few entries and award prizes! This year, our grand-prize winner was Cassandra Riggle from Hampton, Virginia. Cassandra won a married couple's convention registration for 2009 and two nights at the Marriott. Congratulations, Cassandra!

All our drawing winners are listed below. A hearty congratulations to you all, and a big thank you to everyone who submitted feedback! Your feedback has been helpful as we make plans for our 2009 convention.

Willi Gets A History Lesson in Virginia's Historic Triangle Get Your Gift Doubled...and Get a FREE Gift!
Even though HEAV is serving more homeschool families than ever before, revenues have been significantly less than anticipated--especially during these summer months. To help this situation, three anonymous donors--who fervently believe in the work HEAV does to support, equip, and protect Virginia homeschoolers--have pledged to DOUBLE every contribution made to HEAV up to $7,500! That means your donation will go twice as far--$25 will become $50, $50 will become $100, $500 will become $1,000, and so forth.

This double-your-donation challenge ends September 25--will you help us meet our $7,500 goal before then? Whatever you're able to give will go twice as far towards helping us continue to fight for homeschooling freedoms in Virginia and to provide information, encouragement, and support through our counseling, publications, website, and resources.

Get a Thank-you Gift for You!
We have 70 copies of the fun and much-loved Willi Gets a History Lesson to give away to the first 70 families who give a gift of $100 or more.

To give a gift, please call our office (804-278-9200), or visit our website.

5) Parting Thought - May the Mind of Christ My Savior
May the mind of Christ, my Savior,
Live in me from day to day,
By His love and power controlling
All I do and say.

May the Word of God dwell richly
In my heart from hour to hour,
So that all may see I triumph
Only through His power.

May the peace of God my Father
Rule my life in everything,
That I may be calm to comfort
Sick and sorrowing.

May the love of Jesus fill me
As the waters fill the sea;
Him exalting, self abasing,
This is victory.

May I run the race before me,
Strong and brave to face the foe,
Looking only unto Jesus
As I onward go.

May His beauty rest upon me,
As I seek the lost to win,
And may they forget the channel,
Seeing only Him.

- Kate B. Wilkinson. You can listen to this old but dear hymn on the Cyber Hymnal. The hymn was first published in 1925.

6) Worth Repeating
"The purpose of Christianity is not to avoid difficulty, but to produce a character adequate to meet it when it comes. It does not make life easy; rather it tries to make us great enough for life."
- James L. Christensen

Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song; he also is become my salvation.
