1.1 Play Auditions and Drama Camp - Highland Springs - Registering Now

Henrico Theatre

Thursday, April 9, 2009, from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $5/audition fee; $225/camp fee (includes classes, snacks every day, dinner on Thursday and Friday evenings, a souvenir t-shirt, a congratulatory ad in the program, a copy of the program, and a DVD of the play). Open to homeschoolers aged 12 to 18. Please register as soon as possible so auditions may be scheduled.

"Cornerstone Players" is hosting a drama camp May 11 through 15. The week-long camp will end with a performance of the play April Morning. Auditions will be held on April 9 (contact for an alternate date if necessary).

The website for the Virginia Historical Society (VHS) in Richmond provides a list of exhibits and educational resources available to teachers, parents, and students. Collections in the VHS provide a link to the lives of Virginians since 1831. See the "Education" link for descriptions of the various programs and links to other resources for educators.

Tours or hands-on programs begin at 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 12:30 p.m., or 2:15 p.m  and may be scheduled for weekdays for groups of ten or more students. (Choose only one, please). Cost: $3/adult; $2/student; one adult bringing ten students is free. Fill out the request form on the website at least three weeks in advance (or even further in advance for April and May, which fill very quickly); they will contact you to schedule the time and confirm details. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Free; childcare provided for a donation. Pre-registration is required for childcare and requested for everyone.

Listen as Catryna Jackson gives a talk titled "A True Leap of Faith...Making the Transition from Public/Private School to Homeschooling." Her story of tears and laughter tells how she began homeschooling midyear with a middle-schooler and kindergartener. She will detail the many mistakes and discoveries her family underwent as they went from school to homeschool.

1.4 Homeschool History Days - Gettysburg, PA - April 23-25

United States Christian Commission (USCC) Museum

Thursday, April 23, 2009, to Saturday, April 25, 2009, from noon to 5 p.m. Cost: $6.50/adults; $5/children (ages 6 to 12); free/children 5 and under. Museum tour is about 45 minutes long. Group discounts will be available for groups of 10 or more.

Join the Wega family, homeschoolers who founded the USCC Museum at Gettysburg, for the Homeschool Family Days Program. Special events at the Museum and USCC Log Chapel will include Civil War soldier demonstrations and chapel services. In addition to museum tours, write a letter to a soldier, make a "housewife" sewing kit, and participate in other family-friendly activities.
