Legislative Update
October 24, 2008
With
less than two weeks before the general election, we as homeschoolers
need to prayerfully consider the candidates' qualifications based on
facts and voting records, not persuasive political ads. Your vote is
critical! Virginia is considered one of a half-dozen key swing states.
Your Vote Counts! According
to HSLDA senior counsel Dewitt Black, "Statistics show that
approximately 50% of eligible adults register to vote. In any given
election, only about 50% of registered voters actually vote. That is
25% of adults! That means that it only takes about 13% of adults to
elect any given candidate." Your vote can really make a difference!
Get the Facts! It is
imperative each person cast an informed vote on November 4. As
homeschoolers we must be well-informed on the positions of the
candidates concerning critical family issues--issues that may
affect our right to homeschool and to live by our
Judeo-Christian values. These are not the issues the mainstream media
is covering.
Below are several links to voter guides for your reference. These
guides are FREE and may be downloaded in any quantity for your support
group, community group, or church group.

If you are a group leader or pastor and are unsure about what you
are/are not allowed to say politically as a non-profit organization,
please see this letter from the IRS.
The letter explains both the boundaries put upon non-profits and the
actions allowed. It says 501(c)3 non-profit organizations may
participate in unbiased political activities, such as distributing
voter guides showing the positions of each candidate.
A Great Family Learning Opportunity A
presidential election is very important! Involve your homeschool family
in learning about the election process. Volunteer together at the
polls. Even young children can hand out leaflets. Study the election
process by visiting the Electoral College website
for fun lesson plans and links to other election sites for students.
Take your children with you to vote and follow the results with your
family on TV or online. Most importantly, PRAY together for our country
at this critical time!
See you at the polls!
