DAY AT THE CAPITOL WITH “GEORGE WASHINGTON”

The Library of Virginia
Richmond, Virginia

Wednesday, February 22, 2006

Celebrate Washington’s Birthday with “George Washington” at HEAV’s second Day at the Capitol, on Wednesday, February 22!

Join us as “George Washington” shares about his training and the experiences of his youth that shaped his character. Dressed in uniform, James
Manship, the renowned historical interpreter, will reenact the life of Washington. Mr. Manship is a member of the Mount Vernon Board of Visitors
and has appeared in all 50 state capitols.

“What David McCullough and others are doing between the covers of books, Mr. Manship is doing in person.... His presentations are an extraordinary
entry into the life and experience of an era.” ? Delegate Lee Ware of Powhatan, after a presentation at the Virginia General Assembly in 2002.

This will be a great program for all ages, but especially for students, since Washington will emphasize the piety and morality of his youth. Don’t
miss this opportunity to make your study of Virginia history -- and the “Father of our Country” -- come alive as never before! You may even be
able to have your picture taken with General Washington!

Washington will be one of several special guests during this fun-filled and educational Day at the Capitol! Not only will you and your children
learn how our state government works, but you can make a significant impact on your representatives in the Virginia General Assembly.

OTHER HELPFUL INFORMATION
WEATHER: In the event of severely inclement weather (snow, ice, etc.), please check our Web site at www.heav.org, or call the HEAV Office at
804-278-9200, to learn the status of the event.

BABIES AND SMALL CHILDREN: While we love babies, this event is not appropriate for babies and toddlers. Business will be taking place in committee
rooms and the halls of the General Assembly. The tall marble hallways amplify even happy sounds. Please keep your children with you at all times
in the library and General Assembly buildings, as other events are scheduled and dignitaries will be on-site during the day our event is scheduled.

CONSTRUCTION CAUTIONS: Due to Capitol renovations, the Capitol police and director of the Visitor Center have urged us to keep our children with
us at ALL TIMES. Please make sure your children stay away from all construction sites. The scavenger hunts can only take place near the Bell Tower

PARKING: No parking is available at the Library of Virginia. We recommend you park at one of the local parking lots or garages. Because the
General Assembly is in session this day, we suggest you come early and plan for an extra 10-15 minutes to find an appropriate parking space.
Parking is generally $10-$15 per day. Map.

DRESS: Dress in business or Sunday attire. No jeans, please.

FOOD: Food and drink are not allowed in the library unless it is purchased from the library deli. We are sorry, but we are not able to store food
or coolers in the library facility. A list of local fast-food restaurants is available at www.heav.org and will be available at the registration
table.

GOODIES: If you plan to bring a gift of baked goods or other food types to your representative, be sure to cover them in clear plastic wrap so
they can easily be seen by security.

SECURITY: Metal detectors are now in place at the Capitol and General Assembly office buildings. To speed along the process, carry as little as
possible. It would be better not to bring backpacks.

age-appropriate maps, games, and activities.
