The Museum of the Confederacy

The Museum of the Confederacy

The Museum of the Confederacy invites homeschool families to participate in one or both of the program options below. The cost is $3 per person for one option or $5 for both options and includes admission to the exhibits (children under 5 years of age are admitted free).  Reservations are required. Reserve space by calling Sean Kane at 804-649-1861, ext. 22.

Life on the Homefront (30 minutes)
Offered at 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.

During this hands-on program, students experience jobs that opened to women, children, and African-Americans as a result of the war.  Students learn the duties of a nurse, roll cartridges, and sign treasury notes before participating in a shopping spree to discover how inflation and shortages limited what civilians could purchase.

White House Tour (45 minutes)
Offered at 2:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m., and 3:15 p.m.

Through this guided tour of the restored Confederate Executive Mansion, families will explore the lives of President Jefferson Davis and his family while learning about wartime events, the household servants, social customs, and period decorating styles.
